The Right Place
The Kingdom of Bahoudii has been working toward a physical, "real world" presence for over 30 years. To build that presence we had to find the right place. After years of refinement, we've found and acquired the Right Place.
We began as a "micronation", morphed and grew through the years, and finally arrived at our "destination", our finalized plan, about a decade ago. As we grew, we passed through all the common "first steps" of micronationalism. We toyed with the ideas of stateless/landless "virtual" nation, ships, man-made floating islands, offshore platforms... all to fall by the wayside when viewed in the light of international law, UN precedents, etc.
We had to have physical land to be taken seriously at all.
We initially looked at islands and found one to suit our purposes. It was totally destroyed in a hurricane. We located another that was perfect. It even had a limited infrastructure and some development... but it was purchased before we could raise sufficient capital. After two disappointments, we changed our focus and began to look at other options.
The Kingdom Territory
We finally found what we were looking for, an opportunity in the form of a border dispute resulting from an errant survey from 1859. The error resulted in the Texas-New Mexico state line being placed too far west which placed the 603,485 disputed acres in Texas. (See the image to the right)
New Mexico territorial officials first protested the error in a 1910 draft constitution for statehoodand. The U.S. Federal government acknowledged that the 1859 survey had indeed been "botched". Texas fought back and in 1911, the Federal government instructed New Mexico to surrender the land claim or forget about statehood... New Mexico became a state in 1912... minus 603,485 acres.
Don't think that this border dispute is a "dead issue"... As recently as 2003 the Attorney General of New Mexico was seeking the return of the disputed land and compensation for "subsurface mineral rights, oil and gas royalties and income, property taxes and grazing privileges that New Mexico has not realized due to the boundary error."
The Attorney General was quite serious in wanting a lawsuit filed against Texas, and this fight can also be traced back to the late New Mexico Sen. John Morrow who fought the quixotic fight for years.
The Kingdom Territory is squarely in the center of this disputed strip and the Throne has designated the strip as an "area of special interest" and officially declared it a "Special Protectorate Territory". The Throne makes no claim on any land it does not hold title to, but the disputed strip is considered a "neutral zone" of sorts and we seek to protect its environment, flora and fauna.
Our Territory is located in the center of a 500 acre tract that has seen no development. We are currently raising funds to increase the "footprint" of Bahoudii by securing additional acreage surrounding the Territory we currently hold.
The Territory is located on what is refered to as the "Llano Estacado", a semiarid plain averaging 3,000-4,000 feet (900-1,200 m) above sea level occasionally broken by localized water-retaining depressions. The soil is very fertile, though handicapped by sparse rainfall, high evaporation rates, and periodic droughts. Currently, the Llano supports grazing, dry-land farming of wheat and grain sorghums, vineyards, irrigated cotton production, and the production of petroleum and natural gas can be seen in the many well heads dotting the landscape.
The Kingdom Consulate
In addition to the Kingdom Territory proper, a Consulate Compound has been secured in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is located on approximately 1/4 acre just outside the city of Lake Charles.
The compound includes office space, a formal reception room that also serves as a Throne Room when the Monarch is in residence, a State Dining Room, and residence space. Currently, the Kingdom library is also housed in the Consulate Compound until construction of the necessary facilities within the Kingdom Territory proper are finished.
All properties held by the Throne of Bahoudii are debt free. It has been an essential principle of the Kingdom to hold all property in full and not be under the pressure of debt. No nation-state can succeed crushed under the weight of debt.
